Umbilical Brothers

April 16th, 2009

Yesterday when me and my girlfriend were on our way home from downtown I saw a poster about an Umbilical Brothers show here in Gothenburg. Too bad it was on the 15th of April which was that very same day :( I tried to buy us tickets but they were sold out. I’ve been wanting to watch a show of theirs since a year and a half back or so when I missed another of their shows here in Gothenburg.

Anyways I though I’d tell you how great they are. You really should check them out. I don’t know how to describe what they do… Check out the clips below!

Installing OSX86

March 22nd, 2009

I’ve been a mac user for some years now. But I’ve had this strong desire to have a computer I can open up and upgrade/insert new components. For example add some graphic cards so that I can have several monitors. So I was left with two options - buy a $2499 Mac pro or get a PC and install OSX86(modified version of Mac OS X  that can be installed on regular PCs). I went for the PC approach.

Some people would say its unethical to install Mac OS X on a non-mac computer, as this way Apple are losing potential income from hardware sales. Go with “whatever floats your boat”. I encourage you to buy the awesome Apple products :) I am.

Installing OSX86 can be a pain. For me it took 5 reinstalls. The thing is there are several modified install discs that one can use. I’ve tried some different ones and also tried different BIOS settings.

Before you attempt to install OSX86 on your machine you should know that there are several different modified Leopard discs, e.g. Kalyway, iDeneb and iATKOS. It is also possible to do a “vanilla install”(install using retail Leopard disc). What I did was that I have installed Kalyway and I am now about to do a vanilla install from Kalyway.

    How to install

The procedure of installing goes something like this:

    1. Search the web for comments from others who has attempted an install on similar hardware as yours(especially same motherboard). Tip: search google for your motherboard name + OSX86 or Kalyway, iDeneb etc.
    2. Modify BIOS settings settings if needed(depending on your findings from doing #1)
    3. Burn and boot from install disc. When it says you may press F8 to specify options do so and type -v  for text output. If you encounter some error here search google for that error message, find out how to solve it, solve it and then do #3 again.
    4. Enjoy

If people actually read this and have comments please post them :)

    The introduction

    March 15th, 2009

Hello there. I’ve been meaning to start a blog for some time now. Because every now and then there’s something you want to just get out there for some reason. Like something you want to share, something cool you have found, some idea that you have, or whatever.

I’m starting off with a very brief introduction. I’m  23 years old, living in Gothenburg Sweden. I am currently studying Software Engineering and Management here. I’m now doing my final semester and I am expected to graduate this spring.

Software Engineering is one of my interests and there will probably be some posts here related to that area. But hopefully many other kinds of posts too. I enjoy doing some small programming projects on my spare time. Some of them can be found here on the website.
